Spinning

From cloud-soft wool to thread — this is where the journey becomes visible. Spinning is the art of giving the fiber its first true direction. The artisan’s hands feed the carded wool to the spindle or wheel, guiding it with a rhythm that mirrors the pace of their own breath.

In Ruh Rug, spinning is not just mechanical — it is meditative. The wheel turns, the fiber twists, and with each rotation, strength is born from softness. The twist binds the fibers, just as intention binds the heart to its purpose.

Many of our spinners work with the same tools their mothers and grandmothers used, each wheel carrying the quiet patina of decades. While the hands move, the heart often whispers prayers. This is why we call it Rhythm & Breath — the steady pulse of the wheel becomes like dhikr, each turn a remembrance.

“And We have certainly created man from an extract of clay, then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging; then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh]…”
(Qur’an 23:12–14)

Just as life takes form in stages, so too does the rug. Spinning is the stage where the formless begins to hold form, the loose becomes strong, and the raw becomes ready for the loom. Every rug you see began here — in the quiet turning of a wheel, in the patience of hands, and in the breath of someone who believes beauty begins with remembrance.
