Shearing
Before a rug begins its journey to your home, it begins here — in a moment of mercy.
The shearing is not an act of taking, but of giving relief. Each spring, the sheep is freed from the weight of its winter coat. The clippers hum like a calm river, guided by hands that have learned from generations before — gentle, steady, never hurried.
In Ruh Rug, this moment is called The First Release because it mirrors the first step in the soul’s own journey: letting go of what is no longer needed. Just as the Prophet ﷺ taught compassion to every creature, the wool is taken without harm, allowing the animal to walk lighter into the season ahead.
The fleece that falls is more than fiber — it is raw blessing. Soon it will be cleaned, spun, and woven into a surface that may one day hold your prayer, your pause, your remembrance.
When the Qur’an speaks of creation, it often reminds us that these animals are a trust:
“And the grazing livestock He created for you; in them is warmth and [various] benefits…”
(Qur’an 16:5)
The First Release is a quiet covenant between shepherd, sheep, and soul — a beginning that remembers the Source of all beginnings.
